Honestly, if you take the quest for face value, it should be making some wonderful weapon to kill the monster and give it to some challenger and his party. Well, supporting that party from behind is given, you want that challenger to survive and go to coronation after all. There is a blacksmith in the party, so it’s strange to me they hadn’t tried that.
