Conman mode activate- it’s easy to lie outta this. The guy is a merchant who spends his entire life reading the flow of things.. maybe you have your own ability that’s extremely sketchy/limited use

The truth would be the best here: “Bits and pieces. Some things are obscured while others are so clear that it’s like they’re burnt into my memory. Please don’t tell anyone else that I know about the prophecy, and know that I will always have your back.”
Anything more might accidentally betray the selfish reasons why the merchant MC is doing all this, but for this kind of fantasy protagonist, that kind of explanation should be enough to permanently be treated as an ally.
