Oddly enough, i can see it.
The man was a broken man who lost everything that was dear to him, with only thoughts of revenge in his mind. He was unstable and using the soldier mentality to hold on.
It wasn’t about power as he said and his enemy wasn’t the MC or the assembly, so when his one and only goal of taking revenge by his own hand seemed out of his reach, and his own existence became a problem that would divert any amount of force and energy from killing the monsters to this whole situation, he simply decided to remove the new obstacle to his revenge. Himself.
A sad man, with a tragically sad life. A sad villain i can understand.

I’m disappointed. 🤦‍♂️ This is a Moment where I wouldn’t even challenge anyone who calls MC a Mary Sue. 😑 He did something so “Groundbreaking” yet nothing bad happened. Heck, the Main Enemy instead of retaliating conveniently Game Ended themselves. 👎
