another misunderstanding.
had a feeling that was it, in the past life after the funeral whatever she told the eldest (can’t remember and don’t want to go back just to comment) made him feel like they were unwanted burdens to her, so he pulled away and probably told the younger siblings to do the same.
she, seeing how they we’re treating her also assumed that was what they wanted and did the same.
that’s why he told her the burden of being the head of the house will no longer be hers after he got married.

she loves those children very much; it seems like they just have a fear of abandonment which makes it hard for them to accept her, even though deep down they already have.
