Based on what ive seen so far of the dwarven slave shackle Im thinking they must have a Specific degree of Magic (probably a controlled form of necromancy or Some form of healing magic) that hijacks the Nervous system or the brain itself to both ensure compliance and keep the slave alive Until the shackle is either removed or destroyed Even if the subject is rotting
