Closest guess I have to how he does immense damage sometimes and not others is either…
- the enemy needs to be at full hp
- the level difference between player and enemy has to be quite far
- there are different critical multipliers for stealth, headshot, etc. and random critical hits
- some mixture of the previous options

The only reason why the bear didn’t die was because of lag, its always lag
