Wasn’t her mother already ok?
meaning the only thing she needed money for now was to avoid becoming a slave.. sure bad enough but basically she betrayed him to not become a slave not due to saving her mother.
pretty sure she must have at least collected most of the money so just take another loan to cover the remaining difference, or even beg the MC for a loan… Better than a betrayal at least..
