This series has always been able to throw us a surprise when we lease expect it, as the comments have suggested the empire is almost certainly spying on him, i think the moment she spoke the words “i would even leave the empire” her fate was sealed. She became a liability to his loyalty.
I think he will be ordered to kill her, he will become head of the household and his very first order will be to rout and kill those in the household with traitorous thoughts.
