Why even have the proposal for marriage if the guy is just going to decline.

Never mind that it’s crazy arrogant of a kingdom to want to make someone their vassal that is stronger then them and bigger then them and more advanced then them in all ways possible. And then if that dont work then lets just try to use the political marriage.
Why not ask to be the mc vassal instead ? mc was basically the one who saved your country and made you a king. Never mind that Duketom should be under kingdom or empire and not as a different country. Duke is basically second to a king or emperor by title so the mc is still under some ruler in this case.
But then again in all of these the titles and countries and numbers never make sense like in this one where the mc country have like 5048 people as population but one or few chapters before that they state that their army already was 5000 man strong. Soldiers are not part of the country population or something?
