Locking anger is stupid. No other emotion is as good for combat, which is nearly entirely what MC uses his magic for.
Sadness could easily weaken it, while despair could lead to loss of control far worse than anger.
Happiness or delight during combat is the stuff of “battle maniacs”, probably not good emotions to get use to feeling and using in combat, especially against people
I hope he won’t say sorry to the jerk who tried to kill him, he got what he deserved. But he probably will.
