When mentioning him devouring his enemies, I wonder why they are not wary of him being impure and summon a high priest to use some divine arts to judge his alignment and if he is monstrous. I would imagine in a world with demonic realms and vampires every lord would have a bodyguards vigilant to their presence and corruption
