Always these sad siblings backstorys that get’s me
I love the sense of universal flow of the author, even the characters backstory are built in a way that makes total sense with the expressed personalities following a “natural logic”

That umbrella thing is originally a tsukumogami, a type of yokai that possesses objects. Either cherished objects, objects used for a long time, objects used in crime and more. Little yokai (supposedly) with no power come into the world and sort of either wander forever or find an object, they’re actually meant to wonder. Can think of tsukumogamis as a mutation.
Either way, this issue the paper umbrella tsukumogami. It can be seen in a well known painting of the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons.
From the media I’ve seen it in, it ranges from either super friendly/weak, to insanely strong & not nice.
There’s a really good anime about tsukumogami that’s very underrated and definitely worth your time called Monogatari & Monogatari Monogatari: Malevolent Spirits.

The guy’s desperate face as he’s thinking about his dead daughter while hopelessly trying to save a kids life to make up for it got me so emotional
Bro’s backstory hit different 
Ok, this nice and all, but if zuma is subjugated and dead later, than all of this backstory is all for nothing.
I don’t even care the chapters are short it’s just so good 
In hindsight the yokai aren’t actually that bad 🙂
