Main drawback I see with gis skills is the range limit…
A strong ranged dealer being outside his defuff range would be tough .

my favorite type of games are RPG and MMO , the problem with debuffs are that the enemies you would benefit the most from debuffing are normally IMMUNE to debufs , like mini bosses, bosses, mvps , and some types of normal enemies are immune to a debuff type like poison for example .
also if it is a turn based game , you will loose a entire turn to cast a debuff … maybe was just better to simple attack the enemy , if its not a turn based game you would loose your ” global cooldown” to cast it , while your enemy is destroying you .
buffs and debuffs are equivalent good , but buffs have a massive advantage : you can enter a fight already buffed , while you cand do it with debuffs , most enemies will turn hostile the moment they detect a magic cast .
