Chiho and Alas Ramus are like the gluons holding together the structure of the atomic family… I think that the thing of “oh, I will eventually slay you Maou in epic battle” is basically a friendly competition between the two… remember when Maou said he wanted that one worker in that branch to eventually become his frenemy, perhaps? I would say that is the very relationship between Maou and Emi, and as they are having to become close together by the needs of the child, much, perhaps, like in an actual relationship, the bond will only grow stronger. Feel sorry for Chiho; I feel as if this is put in so there will be a shipper war of Maou being with Chiho or the tsundere Emi.
Everyone is basically having all their trauma remedied by being in Japan here… it also allows them to have an objective viewpoint on what is happening in Ente Isla; without being trapped in the cogs of the war machine, they can step back and truly reconsider their lives, and remember…
That behind every enemy is a living individual. War can set men at each other’s throats, without time to think about why they’re doing this other than some grand purpose they were ordered to fulfill by some suit at the top of high command.
