man, that is indeed a hard to decide decision. It’s not because it’s not a life threatening surgery but because the patient is still young and might get a lot of complication (but this is just a fictional story so I’m assuming after he finished. the kid won’t have anymore complication)
still, there are two outcome of this operation, if he cut the intestine or not:
“cut: the remaining large intestine will be connected after or create a stool passage (which I doubt will happen here)
not cut: the large intestine will start to eat the smaller intestine again
not cut: the large intestine will start to eat the smaller intestine again
either choice will let the kid survive but if it’s not cut. he might get a lot of complication as he grew.”
