So it wasn’t her mother but the last of Honjou’s rabid superfans, the cult of personality is one hell of a thing. I feel conflicted about the ending if I’m being honest, I suppose it’s to be expected that it’d be bittersweet like most of the narrative and genre, but that doesn’t stop it from hurting regardless. I can’t help but feel a deep well of pity for Sakura, trapped in a hell on earth with the only respite being the love she had for a boy who had long since forgotten that which connected them. At least she passed on knowing that he had at last remembered and had grown to love her in turn. For better or worse, it was one hell of a read for the last couple days, I won’t soon be forgetting this odd and beautiful little tale.
