Its good to see how the author brings out the fact that Seletia does not become a slave to her personal rights but rather commits to the responsibility of being a master ready to sacrifice for her sworn slave partners.

And she says “i am THE master , not THEIR master so she is not ruling Fiel but she is just as committed to her because she is part of the honest and caring partnership they have all created.

Imagine if you were so willfully ignorant , self-righteous and determined to force your own views on others that you could not see slavery, as an institution, as one of the many problems of probably all worlds most of the time.

When society CANNOT bear the burden of such things as social welfare (normal) then it becomes the burden of those with means. If help is given out to all who ask randomly the funds run out and merely put off the famine without anything produced and everyone is worse off with no help avenues left. So people are indebted to those with means and their production can hopefully feed them and a few others. Finally it turns into slavery and can be abused—-it is never ‘good’ but can be so much better than the alternatives.
