We all are in a cage, no matter the material of the bars; gold, silver, mud, fate, whatever.
Born with nothing? Wasn’t he given training as a knight? In fact, as the second son, he would have received the same training as the first, except that the teachers would not have been quite so strict.
Not just any commoner can put together a (huge) mercenary group like that. He took full advantage of his education, and he’s not even acknowledging it.
Yeah, it makes sense for MC to bring him on. But that lack of gratitude is a HUGE problem.
I want to see him as a teenager already 
ok atleast Mc is humble enough to accept his Op’ness unlike 90% other Mc’s who brag about “Effort” while being spoon fed by the system.
The real heroes are the craftsmen who built the great hall. Repeated impacts from armor, weapons, magic, etc. and not a dent or scratch on the flooring.
