For the SL refence
I looked it up and Wingdings are just the random scribbles and various other fonts that indicate something speaking an unknown language or just something unintelligible, and in SL instead of writing in the wingdings they just straight up had the character say “wingdings,” so having those two guys say “wingdings” it’s a reference to that joke in SL
I’m fairly sure that’s what the reference is

I’ll have to say there is a fundamental misunderstanding in this manga.
Fermentation is the process whereby bacteria consume sugars and other elements in food, which releases gas and vinegar and/or alcohol. It doesn’t rot since first it’s still very much alive, and with oxygen displaced mold won’t grow either. You can either provide your own blend of bacteria and yeast, or have nature provide it.
Some fermenting is done in a salt brine, whereby the salt solution is high enough (3% or higher) which prevents unwanted microorganisms from growing/breeding and eating said food.
Now back to here, he has the corrupted soil under but not touching the beans. This reminds me that if you have a ripe banana or apple they will ripen others near it at an accelerated rate, but that’s not exactly rotting so much as certain chemicals released that aid in the ripening of food/fruit. Once you get past a certain point the food will just rot. I think this is wrong based on what’s available, but whatever it’s fiction.
