Hmm… That seems too pointless for it to be the result of someone powerful plotting against him, in my opinion.
However, the dude is seriously hated, feared and mistrusted by the people. Therefore, if the people from town noticed that he’s digging up holes outside of town for some reason, they’d likely assume that whatever he’s doing is probably something bad. It’s nothing strange at all to imagine that some of them might find a small act of vandalism or theft to be a good way to make “The Pig’s” plans more problematic.

Da faq??? Dukal houses are second in power only to the royal families. For one of it’s direct descendants to be attacked in broad daylight by peasants is unimaginable if only to maintain dignity and avoid precedent of condoning such behaviour. A scene like that just couldn’t happen in middle ages or Renaissance period. Fear and avoidance are more likely reaction.
