I`m pretty sure he is slowing losing his mind cause the subtle difference in his personality from chapter 1 to chapter 20 is quite obvious if you view from an angle.

IMO it would’ve been better to tell them that he repeats days etc, so they can start trusting him more and help him more in the future.
Nothing to do with this chapter but 
if you gave that ability to “repeat the same day over and over” to someone they would 100% try to hit on the elf commander and die over and over 
Seemed like he was just going to push through it on his own, but I guess less people should die if he warns them about the spell beforehand
