I wonder if the MC had died (regressed), could he have given the wive hope that he would save her and return her to her husband? It might have given her strength to endure a bit longer. It sucks that she died. (not a fan of the “martyr syndrome” trope often to stir up vengeance from a main character or sorrow (sometimes a character’s and the reader’s both).

if you think he will try to get his revenge on his wife MC could’ve just say that he already get his revenge so his wife soul can free now then that dude can move on and be happy that his wife is not suffering anymore.
I think he should’ve said that his wife is already dead and give his ring back so he can move forward instead of giving him hope.
