I’d probably have said ‘I negotiated with the dragon, and she’ll return her. But first she wants a blessing and a kiss from each of [most likely people to love her]‘. If her request is satisfied she’ll return the her immediately.
As for this being an act of treachery, hmmm… She did say the head mistress talked of dragons alot.
