It surely isn’t the first gate that becomes irregular, it’s not plausible that they only brought a minimal equipment. No professional would do that. Even less near a village where their retreat or failure can endanger people.
And a simple military knife when fighting against monsters? They should always have a longer blade with them.

Always carry a weapon that doesn’t need ammo… like a big knife or a short sword..

Love this chapter
not only the art is good, the story is good and the characters are interesting, but MC is literally killing furry’s as soon as they appear in his sight. That’s a person of character, with it’s priorities set straight
That chapter was amazing however if they had time and point advantage why didn’t they took out like Rifles with expanded magazines or machine guns, they could be easily fast discarded if needed and quickly switched to short arm or close combat
