If the imperial saintess doesn’t attempt to confront the other nations for possibly destabilizing Amidonia, then the story’s direction paints her as just a bullying antagonist so the hero can look smart/kind.
I honestly like the anime version of this scene better. The princess pulled a Cleopatra move by hiding in a stack of cloth/fine silk and tried to surprise Souma. Of course being a history nut that he is, Souma knew immediately there was someone in the stack and ruined the surprise…also mentioned how Cleopatra was naked when she appeared out of the stack but that is a whole other story
