Some gory scenes so far first chapter. Im liking this so far kept me hooked all chapter.

Nah, way too much overinterpretation in this.
One does not need to skin a person to copy their tattoos. They can look and draw them or even use wax paper or such to trace the images through and then you can combine those papers however you like with zero need to harm anyone.
Instead of needing to have bunch of skins to solve the puzzle.
I did that as a kid to copy various images just putting paper on top of them and drawing through.
