The corrupt mayor or whoever hired the embers to hunt the goblins hired a group of assassins to kill the ember chasers right after they took care of the goblins because the mayor didn’t want to pay them(wanted to keep all the money for himself). Mayor found out embers talked to the goblins so the embers group either are dead or tortured and held up somewhere.
Honestly I could careless about embers, they would of died either way by the goblins, or assassins, and the fact they were oblivious that they had a tail following them it just shows how weak of a group they were.

So, her freinds died?
Well that’s weird, why would she be crying over some assassins who just a moment ago were contemplating assaulting her?
What the hell man, why is she working with them?
Oh no, she got attached to the little Goblin and raised its death flags 
She doesn’t know about the assassins, so is it because she saw him kill humans. Then again, why is she here alone?
