Despite how overprotective Mashiba is, what kind of answwer I think he is expecting from Ippo is taking responsibility for his actions and emotions and stand up for his feelings for Kumi.
I think Mashiba is going to accept Ippo only when he shows him, he’s actually a respectible, brave man that is ready to stand up not only for himself, but also for Kumi in the future, meaning she would be safe even without her big brother.
