I already found this strange in the tournament at the beginning;
They have thousands of disciples in their secs, even the small one where MC was first. AND everyone is super surprised when someone beats a cultivator from a higher stage.
It stands to reason that they should and could rank disciples within their own stage.
In the first tournament they even paired up the lower ranks with the top ranks intentionally.
Any given disciple will only be at rank 10 of their stage for so long, making these tournaments super arbitrary for everyone but rank defying geniuses, who are supposedly rare.
