Seems like some people are confused as to this retrospection. Here is how I understood it, hoope that makes more sense to you:
- The woman trapped inside the ice was actually a part of Snow Mountain sect.
- As a child she was sent to the rulers of the Northern sects – Ice Palace – to infiltrate it, and take over the throne by becoming the direct disciple under the Ice Palace’s Master
- At some point the Ice Palace Master discovered her precious disciple was a spy sent from Snow Mountain Sect trying to take over the Ice Palace and decided to execute the Snow Mountain sect
- The woman trapped in the ice lost her sanity and started killing everyone around her
The part about stealing martial arts was probably just sweet lies and propaganda to justify their part that led to the massacre.

She literally be like:
The story up to here is weird. I think something is either intentionally left out by the First Master or the translation went wrong somewhere. The lady who took in Hyun Yi (the lady frozen in ice) was supposedly the Ice Palace master. But she wanted to steal all of the Ice Palace martial arts to help the Snow Mountain Sect. So she killed Hyun Yi’s father to make Hyun Yi go on a rampage where she killed people from the Snow Mountain sect and the Ice Palace. But it seems Hyun Yi’s father was from the Snow Mountain Sect? Also weird because wouldn’t the Ice Palace master already have access to all of the Ice Palace’s martial arts? What would Hyun Yi’s master gain? It doesn’t really make sense at this point.
