The manga doesn’t do a good job explaining subtle details like this. To the female classmates, Haruka is quite literally their lifeline and strongest mental pillar of support in this world and later volumes. If anything happens to him, the girls practically go insane and become reckless. From the girls perspective they wanted Haruka to stay safe in town while the they worked as adventurers for their own needs and his.
However, Haruka rejects the idea. Haruka is also a broken person inside. He lost his entire immediate family one after the other. As a result, he is hesitant to make connections and remember folks’ names and refers to them as adjectives. Its also the reason why he drowns himself in otaku things and books. He normally speaks in broken dialogue, but whenever he speaks in coherent sentences it means he is serious and ready to fight to the death.
