This is trash. Nothing about his “back story” about running away makes logical sense given his actions from chapter 1 onwards. There is no sign from his personality of him feeling inferior or hiding from problems. This is a very clearcut case of recon + forced plot line. The author wrote this chapter with a clear goal in mind, without having the story reflect what the Mc has gone through and shown till this point. That’s why there’s a jarring feeling reading this chapter. Because it makes no sense, this is just forced plot to follow a overused trope. (I used to feel bad about myself and that made me weak|, someone said I’m awesome so now I believe in myself so I’m strong now. |Now I’ll overcome the odds and defeat the bad guy.)
