1. He did not realize Deus holds a great deal of reverence towards Palatio.
2. Palatio himself is a powerful mage.
3. The knight’s “benefactor” provoked Palatio, not the other way around, and got stomped for it.
I wouldn’t bet against this clown failing to learn his lesson and trying again later, only to get it worse…
