I feel like they changed methods because mana heart method seemed way too hard for some people and the results seems inconsistent like mc said all mana hearts are different. Maybe the new method makes it ez for everyone to learn at a stable rate but the downside being the new chain method of whatever has a certain limit to how strong one can grow
