I would make something up like “When I was stabbed by the sword I started getting glimpses of knowledge about things. Then make it seem like its sporadic; “when I held a sword I knew how to make a mana heart”, “when I was in need of strength a song came to mind”, “when I saw an orc information about them came to me”

At least then he can play off he knowledge as a fortuitous encounter which is not to be ‘relied on’ in a time of crisis but is still trustworthy
