If I interpreted that earlier panel right, I think it’s foreshadowing that the father is being required to send one of his daughters to that demon infested place. The way they talked and the visuals just make it seem like he didn’t have a real choice in the matter. If that’s the case then he’s distancing himself from them as to not be hurt when they get thrown out there to be killed.
