For a moment there, I thought that the ability stripping didn’t strip another person of their superpowers, but instead it stripped them of their clothes 
And then the mc goes and says:

wow, what a horrible introduction. But I’ve seen worse. But we can’t judge a book merely by its cover (or intro, in this case), I’ll read the next 3-5 chapters to draw the definitive conclusion.
