So, there’s a major plot hole here. It was implied in the previous go around that the heroes party never ran into this guy, or at least if they did they didn’t know he was a shape shifter, otherwise they would have been a lot more cautious about inviting new members into their party. There’s no way they would have given everything to their mysterious porter if they knew this guy existed. Therefore they didn’t know about this guy, and certainly didn’t know about him while Ed was still in the party. In the previous life Tia didn’t tell Ed anything about the porter other than that he used a teleport crystal to steal all their stuff at a critical moment. So there’s no way that Ed would know that this guy could shape shift, his name, or that he was the porter in the previous life.

Alternatively if they did know about this guy in the previous life while Ed was still in the party, then the rest of the party are idiots of the highest caliber. They should have been incredibly suspicious of anyone joining the party and never put them in a position where they could completely screw them over. Either way this doesn’t really make much sense.
