Arent swords… MEANT for combat… made with sword and hilt as a single piece of metal?
Only the handle/crosshilt is sometimes attached after for comfort/grip & shock absorbance.
Eg, combat knife is a single piece of metal, while surivival knife they are seperate, with a hollow hilt to hold emergency wire/flint/lighter/fishinghook&wire.
Or seperate for something like these…

Imagine MC gets the hilt and manages to turn it into a mana sword
I guess the blade itself not broken, just separated from the hilt.
It that the case then maybe they can recover the blade and repair the sword
