Japan invaded and occupied China twice.
China tried to invade twice, but was unsuccessful due to typhoons (their meteorologists sucked lol)

I pretty sure the reason Xia is losing in the wars is the people in charge of training their soldiers are petty tyrants who more interested in maintaining their own power by one upping each other than uniting to win against a common enemy.
