This is a bit confusing.

Went back and checked Chapter 1, and the High Wizard seemed very certain that the Saintess is the only one that can cast healing magic. 
I just can’t stop thinking about the talking cat from Rick and Morty:

I still think this is better than dying, and he probably thinks that as well. If he didn’t think that, then dying would be him being lucky and surviving would be unlucky.
