It’s pretty obvious that this is not a betrayal, but more of a stopping MC for his own sake.
Even though they’re at war right now, and this guy is a total piece of shit that would be better dead, he’s still a noble. Which means, killing him just like that is bound to bring a lot of troubles.
On the other hand, keeping him alive would be more beneficial. They can take ransom for his life (and give him a little “parting gift” similar to that asshole that tried to abduct princess, so that he didn’t want to mess with MC ever again), or “find” some evidences of his shady businesses and send them to the king for extra merit. Anyway, killing him right now isn’t the best decision
