I think he is causing the Demon army and the Empire to take each other out so the Revolutionary army can rebuild. He is doing an Anakin Skywalker and bringing balance to the forces.

I think the other races will help MC understanding to demon lord is also to blame for his misery not just the empire

damn its kinda messed up cause obviously the demon lord is the evil guy but the story tries to see it from both sides, not gonna like i wouldve chose the demons quicker than the MC
