This story feels like it got picked up by another author in season 3 and that it should have concluded with the confession at the end of season 3. What used to be a story about a transmigrator villianess who adores her daughter has now turned into a weird forced love triangle with a transgender fish lady. Many of the plot points like the mysterious half-brother and the Empress Dowager seem to have been abandoned and there does not really feel like there is any tension anymore. Even the confession feels cheap and now they are doing the more than friends less than lovers bit for a really half baked reason. I feel like they are just dragging out the story instead of meaningfully advancing the plot.
