I think the number of spaceships in the whole series is exaggerated (fleets of nobles have several thousand ships).
On the other hand, I know of another sci-fi series that could provide an explanation:
(There all ships are spherical).
A special 3000 meter omni carrier has there:
– 8 500m battlecruisers
– 36 200m heavy cruisers
– 144 100m light cruisers
– 244 60m covert ( tenders, in total)
– 650 smaller tenders
– 420 space fighters
– and even more
The carrier therefore has around 430 other fully-fledged ships.
At the same time, the carrier alone has a crew of 3000 people and a further 30,000 for the tenders.
If you consider that in the manga each of the 30,000 spaceships has an average crew of only 100 people and you assume that 0.5% of the population serves in the fleet, then the backward planet should have a population of at least 600 million.
Lol.
So it’s like a really mild Butlerian Jihad? But see, if these people were actually smart, they’d begin hating on AI before it was even properly invented.

The one thing I disliked about the series was the throwing away of the Daughter. Even though she was not biologically his, she did love him originally until her mother poisoned her against him.
