I mean getting her executed was harsh enough already.
Even if she had tried what she was accused of in other stories she would have been exiled.
No, they had tortured her by giving her diarrhea (contaminated water), dehydrate her (little water, and what she got was contaminated giving her diarrhea), and blind her, before finally killing her.
Though I agree at that point she would have been hanged, broken her on the wheel (you can look it up, it was a torture to death execution and not pretty), pulled her apart by 4 horses (another “fun” one), or burned at the stake.
The bronze bull was out of fashion already, (Aside that the medieval times lost the technology to make such a bull) which was the execution method where you were cooked alive in a bronze bull contraption under which a fire was lit (victim was in the belly). The screams, which could go on for hours, were distorted to mooing by the contraption.
if i was author and had male lead i would make him just fall in “darkness” and say somthing like “is that so” then make him run and escape then make later time skip and time to start revenge
