Wooden swords? Failed magic? Strong monsters off the bat?
This is no training. They’re trying to show them their place.
The question that naturally rises, how are they planning to use the “heroes”?
They’ve already established control over them through the system and psychology.
Then, what makes the “heroes” special? Why go so far to use them?
I hope we’ll get to figure that out.
If I had to guess, since they provide the gods entertainment, they are most likely to recieve blessings, and so, they are used for their talent and appeasement of the gods.
Perhaps there are also certain conditions, F.e: “Only heroes can kill the demon king!”
Yet that leaves alot unexplained.
