Is interestingly prophetic, the two imaginary girls pretty clearly correspond to the two girls who join his party. Is this maybe a hint that the girls he actually ends up with are actually exactly who he would have wished to encounter? Is this game-like world manifesting his desires?

Just to clarify something, I believe that he only ‘stole’ the sandals, though he did not intend so. This is what gave him the thief title.
The sword, ring and other stuff was actually already his, having selected them prior to his arrival, spending bonus point to gain them.
So I think the impression that some have that he looted the barn of these things is wrong.

I kinda wanted to see that though, it would have been something new. Of course, for the MC to obtain the same amount of exp again
