A story with a fully developed MC would be over very quickly. They’d come in save the day and leave to go fix the next problem. Sounds dull, the MC learning their abilities and defining their role in the world is what makes it interesting. If Bilbo had just destroyed the ring when he first found it think of all the paper Tolkien would have saved.
