Wouldn’t be an easy sollution for his “crop problem” be that he takes the soil he wants to put a “normal” farm on and hardens it like he did with the waterway, basically creating a magic-godly-cement foundation, then either import some soil with the handy wine powered dragon transport service or till it himself with his magic tool (xD) so it turns into usable soil for the others (I wonder how long it’ll last without him touching it afterwards).
He’d just need to make sure it won’t mix up with the salty normal death forrest soil so walling it of with more magical concrete and maybe some water drainage for rain and snowy days. *shrug*
Shouldn’t be that much of a problem, right? I mean he can gradually work on it and create several plots for it in different locations, no need to plow 10 km² at once.
I’d do it like that.
